Parents threatening me to disclose my illness if I marry my BF
30-Mar-2023 (In Family Law)
I suffered from scizophrenia in 2013. I want to marry a guy who knows about my history of illness and is ready to marry me but my family is not supportive of this and they said they will not let me marry him because he is of different caste and they will prove me mentally unfit in court. I am not experiencing any past symptoms and feel mentally fit and still want to marry the guy of my choice, please tell is there a way out for us.
Assuming you are a major by age and have have suffered schizophrenia in the past but are fit now, you can enter into a legally enforceable marriage. However, you will have to take steps to ensure that it is not challenged later in a Court on the pretext of your illness. For that purpose, a registration is advisable with a doctor's report to prove your mental capacity to enter into marriage.
If you wish to get any assistance with respect to getting your formalities completed, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Regards.
In future u parents may not be able to prove you mentaly unfit...and they cannot if u r not mentaly unfit...
