MY late father's FD in SBI is having a non-family nominee and he represents a charity organisation. So will this deposit go to the charity organisation, as a donation or gift, and so is not covered by the Indian Succession Act? Can his heirs claim the amount? Are there any judgements so far in similar cases?

if at all there is no will being executed by your father, the survivors or heirs are entitled to the amount coverd under the fd and it can be made available by a succession certificate issued by a court of law

The nominee is liable to receive and pay the amount to all legal heirs as per personal law applicable. there are several supreme court and high court decisions highlighting the above. trust is not entitled to take the amount
