Dear Sir it is personal loan and enjoyed by your brother. You are not supposed to repay the same. Ask her to go anywhere. She cannot get that amount. Therevwas PIOU OBLIGATION principle. Now was removed from the statute book. Nothing worry.

If you were unknown to the transaction details of your brother and also not a party of the transaction then you are not liable to pay any money back. As you say there is no proof of the transaction as well then it's not wise to go ahead with giving the alleged borrowed money back.

Firstly if your brother has borrowed it without your knowledge and for his own use(and not for family purpose), then you are not liable to pay for it. It is kind of you to have repaid the 1.59 lakhs after your brother expired. Even if she goes to DC, you can state the same. If you are willing to settle, you can always say you will only pay the principal amount and not interest.
