Married on false information how can girl save herself

My friend entered into matrimony on the basis of partly false information regarding her education. When her in laws came to know this, they threatened my friend and her family with legal action. Her husband has left her since 8 months. Can she admit her mistake through some legal way before any possible legal action is taken against her or her family? What are her other options to avoid legal consequences?
