26-Jul-2023 (In Family Law)
Hello. I am a Malaysian Muslim women. Let’s say I married an Indian man in Thailand who converted from Hindu to Islam, about 2 years ago (without any documents from India). How do we register the marriage in India? Other than paying a fine, can we get into any type of trouble?

Hai, As the courts in India have not accepted change of religion for marriage purposes only, so the man still be considered a Hindu. However, you can get the marriage registered under the Special marriage Act, in the District, your husband belongs.

The marriage certificate that was given to the parties for their marriage in a foreign country can be further certified by the Indian High Commission in the foreign country. Even the Indian authorities in the Indian High Commission, register the Foreign marriage under the Indian Foreign Marriage Act,1969 anytime, no time period assigned for the same. The parties should contact the Indian High Commission for necessary help in this regard.
