This kind of marriage in Hindu Dharma called Gandharv Vivah. And if both the parties admit to it, and live in society for a long time as Husband and wife, it becomes a legal marriage, however in Hindu Law with out witness and Saptpadi this marriage is not recognised as a legal marriage. Performance of hindu rituals and anushthan is must where prime importance is given to saptapadi.
