marriage certificate

09-Sep-2023 (In Family Law)
Hi , I have a memorandum of marriage , is it different than marriage certificate ? I was given this by a marriage bureau out side Bandra court , I did not go directly to any court for registration ,this was in year 1992, this memorandum has only a hindu priest sign and a Bandra registrar signature and seal , does this work as valid proof of marriage ?or can it be challenged as we do not have any photos or witnesses for marriage , I also do not know if this hindu priest who signed was actually a priest.

Though your Marriage subsist in the year 1992 there was not much Importance given to the Registration of Mairriage that days, however the certificate you have mentioned which contains the Sealand Signature of Bandra Registrar which itself sufficient for its genuineness and Validity hence the certificate which you have is sufficient and it is admissible world at large.

Hello,

Memorandum is the application which when submitted in court, directs the local ward office to issue marriage certificate. It is not a marriage certificate. I believe your marriage was solemnised under special marriage act. It can be used as proof only when you register this. It is strange to not have any witness for marriage. Please show the docs and a lawyer can advise accordingly. You may connect with me for further assistance.
