Legal remedy as married girl ill-treated at home by her in laws

Dear sir/madam One of my colleagues wife (who's a good friend of mine as well) isn't being well treated at home by her in-laws. It's been almost a year now as they're misbehaving and not treating her well. They've been married since last 2.5 yrs now and things were all well initially. Despite putting efforts by both husband and wife to get things sorted internally(by talking to in laws and making them understand), nothing concrete coming out and they're now virtually running out of options. I came across this few days back when my friend himself told me story and asked me for help. Pls assist and suggest
As you said if things are not working then they will have to take the final decision, either they can take divorce by mutual consent or they can live this way only. By taking mutual divorce they will not get into any kind of trouble

It’s nice that the husband is able to feel the behaviour of his family is not correct towards the wife. He can either shift out of the house of family and live outside at tenant and this may incure extra cost and both of them can work and besides he can request the family to behave or go for counsellor which mostly his family will not agee seeing their history. Or they can partition
