please tell me about the procedure to obtain legal heirship certificate in mumbai.is it availlable from tehsilard's office like in some states like orissa, tamilnadu and delhi.or is it only through courts.and also what is timetaken and legal fees for that
Under section 372 of the Indian Succession act, it is open to any person to apply for the certificate though ordinarily an heir of deceased is expected to apply for the same.

In Maharashtra, legal heirship or succession certificate can be obtained from court of appropriate jurisdiction on the basis of the last residence of deceased or place where the property is located . It takes around 3 to 4 months time to obtain it from court.
