Harassment and intimidation By family

Im a NRI, but have a family matter and they live in India. It's a matter of harassment intimidation and so on, going on for years. But in June 2023,it turned more violent when I was visiting for a wedding. And finally I reached my limit and pushed back. Then they started smearing my name and completely isolated me. It's deeply disturbing. Can I sue them for emotional distress?

First of all rather than going legally you should serve them a legal notice and in that notice you can ask them to stop all these harassment or face legal action which will be at your own risk. And if you wish to go legal then you can anytime approach the court and file a defamation suit under section 356 under the new law.
