It's advisable for you to at least file a complaint in writing to the police station according to your jurisdiction before going to your matrimonial home to collect your belongings because you never know what's going on in his mind and he can also file a wrong complaint against you. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.

If you think the situation in your matrimonial home is so conducive that you may go and take your stuffs then you should get it before filing of the case. But if you fear that things might turn bad and bad to worse, then precautions is advisable that you save yourself from becoming victim of hate and torture. You can recover your belonging by invoking Protection of women form domestic violence act section 18 provides for recovering stridhan I.e. wife's belongings from matrimonial home. There are other remedies also available like share in the house or rental house, maintenance apart from that in the Cr.P.C, compensation etc.
