False alegation on someones character

if some one on whats app abuse me by saying u are a thief & u have affairs.can i go legally & file a case for this words being used which is really hurting me from inside
If it is forwarded on group then it's clear cut defamation but if it is forwarded to you personally then it is infringement of Information technology Act. And can be used for abusive words but not defamation.

Well, you can certainly file a case of Mental Harrasment against him, if he keeps pinging you, you can file a case of Online Stalking against him, but you cannot file a Defamation Case against him , considering, he or that someone has not defamed you either in front of third person or Society, hence, Defamation Case cannot be filed against him or that someone.
