Defamatory case against sisterinlaw family

can i file a case aginst a person who called me mad when i was in depression I had suffered society loss and loss of marriage prospects

Yes if the words speaker are defamatory in nature then acase of criminal as well as civil defamation can be filled against the person asking to compensate or else face trial. Notice has to be given before filling such cases.

If he called mad in public place and because of their statment your reputation was down and you suffered in society so you can file privTe complaint before the competent Court where court after recording statment may take cognizance against the concern person
