Change name and religion in documents

05-Aug-2023 (In Family Law)
I belong to the Hindu religion, but I got married to a Sikh guy 8th months ago, so now I want to also change my religion as well as my name and address in all documents. So will my name be changed on my 12th grade certificate also? And will there be any problem if I have to give government Exams or go to a foreign country in the future because of changing my name? What is the procedure for that? Where can I apply?

since you wish to change the name and the religion , the first and foremost thing is to get a certificate of marriage where your current name is mentioned along with the name of your husband. you will also have to undergo a process of getting the name change published in a newspaper and post that apply to gazette of India for such name change. once that is done then you can apply for a passport where such changes can be made effective

No there will not be any problem if you get your name changed. The lawyer will guide to the procedure. Do engage a lawyer. An affidavit needs to be executed. Thereafter a public notice in newspaper needs to be drafted and published through a lawyer.

Hello Ma’am. This is Adv. Shrikant Samantara. You may change the Name and Religion on the basis of a Newspaper Publication, followed by gazette notification, along with a few other formalities. The name on the Certificate would remain the same; CBSE doesn’t do it easily. You need to apply at the Department of Publications, located at Civil Lines, Delhi.

hello, you don't have to change your religion because Sikhism is also considered as a sect of Hinduism. You can go to Gurudwara and meet the clergy men and ask them to accept you as a follower of Sikhism. For further detailed discussion through consultation please feel free to contact me at any time.

For change of religion there are different documentation like the gazette and affidavit. For name change in the school certificates you will need to file a case in the high court making the board a party to the case. It will be changed only after courts order.
