Can a PG student claim the benefits, defined under maternity act ?

Sir/mam, I belongs to hindu family in Uttarakhand. I wants to know the benifit for a PG student in indian maternity act. May i claim exempt in attendence/lectures ?
Maternity benefits,if that economical help then this is depend on the department/college and if your issue of benefits are semester/exam/fees relief then you can claim against the department or college.

Benefits under the Maternity Benefit Act cannot be claimed by you as you are not an employee and are not covered under the act. Attendance exemption cannot be claimed by you as you are a student and thus not covered under the provisions of the Act. However, you can request your college or university to grant you exemption but you cannot do so as a matter of right and it will be the discretion of the university or college to grant such exemption.
