don't revert back or talk with them. legally they can use or file police complaint for breach of promise of marriage. so u be prepare with proof that they broke the engagement. and usually whatever is given by both side is exchanged. they might be frustrated as they might have broken the engagement and now they might not be getting any good match

Mutual Exchange: Since you mention both sides exchanged gifts (you gave a necklace and ring, they gave a chain), courts often consider this a mutual exchange. If you return their gifts, you may also be entitled to demand the return of the gifts you gave. • Time Limitation: Most jurisdictions have a statute of limitations for civil claims (e.g., 3–7 years, depending on the country). After 4 years, the girl’s father’s ability to legally demand repayment or return of gifts may be limited, but this depends on your local laws

It is very likely that they might accuse you and your family members in a false case by approaching the Police authorities in order to malign your reputation and recovery of the items. Feel free to contact me for seeking any legal advice as regards the same.

It was just an engagement and if the transactions or the exchange of gifts happens from both the sides thn both the parties are equally eligible to ask their gifts and the expenses back, why only girl’s father will ask even you can ask for the same

As per Indian law, there is no legal obligation to return engagement expenses or gifts after such a long gap, especially when the engagement was broken due to the girl's family’s decision. Since the breakup happened 4 years ago and there was no contact, any claim now appears to be baseless and time-barred. You can inform them that the demand is unjustified and may amount to harassment. If they continue to threaten you, consider filing a police complaint for mental harassment or sending a legal notice through a lawyer.
