Applying for divorce because it's a baby girl

My sister's husband and his family harassed her in her pregnancy, unhoused her 4 yrs ago. We tried our best to contact them and convince them every now and then in these 4 yrs, but they never responded at all. Now after 4 years suddenly he has filed for divorce and yesterday during mediation he totally rejected to take care of his baby daughter. An now we suspect that he is doing that only because he wanted a baby boy and got a baby girl. He once before they delivered the baby said to my sister that he wants a baby boy. He is not at all interested in looking at his daughter's face too.
We have my sister's close friend as our lawyer for this case, but we desperately looking for an advice.
