Am I able to file a legal case against my father for not providing financial support, including seek
08-Jul-2024 (In Family Law)
In India, once a child reaches the age of majority (18 years), they generally cannot file a case against their father for financial support, unless they are physically or mentally unable to support themselves. However, legal action can be taken in property matters. If the property in question is ancestral, the child has a legal right and can file a partition suit to claim their share. On the other hand, if the property is self-acquired by the father, he has full discretion over it during his lifetime. After his death, if no will exists, both the child and the mother can claim equal rights to the property as per inheritance laws.
