Name change procedure briefly involves (i) preparing an appropriate Affidavit which is to be notarized, (ii) Publication in two daily newspaper and (iii) Gazette Notification (not mandatory, but advised). This procedure should be carried out by and under an experienced professional such as a lawyer so that peculiar circumstances and facts of each case might be factored in the above process. In some cases, it has been observed that same name with slight modifications have been used for different documents. For example, Ratan Jain in Pan Card and Ratankumar Jain in Passport. Such discrepancies should not be neglected as it may be problematic and therefore need to be dealt with at the earliest.
