Surname compulsory for passport & visa or not

is surname mandatory in passport of India for visa of any Countary or not ?

So far it is. The Ministry of Foreign affairs have rolled back their proposed changes. Just google it and you will know the current status. There is a logic behind everything and your surname is one such. Don't take time to understand it.

There is no compulsion as such...however it might cause some confusion in visa of certain countries. Visa of some countries put surname of the person first. So it is a matter of inconvenience at times. So it is advisable to write surname in passport
