Procedure for Change of father's name in certificates

09-Aug-2023 (In Documentation Law)
A family friend of ours used to take care of my education and other concerns of mine, with my parents' approval . He was and is childless and he had an idea of legally adopting me as his daughter. Because of this, he gave his name as father's name in school records and his name has remained in all the records (Aadhhaar, Voter ID, passport, school and college certificates etc.) until now. However, a legal adoption never happened and the idea was dropped as other members of his family were perhaps against it, or for some other unknown reasons. Both my parents are deceased and I have no siblings. I do not want his name on any of my records and want to change the father's name from his to my biological father's name. 1. How can I legally affect this change in the records of all the concerned educational and civil authorities? 2. The only record I have which bears the name of my biological father is my birth certificate. 3. No one to testify to my identity in court

Surely it can be done but for that you will have to discuss several aspects of your problem in detail. We will have to file a civil case and also carry out a Gazette publication. If you are in Chennai you may contact me for further advice and assistance.

You need to get the change of name in government gazette. Here you need to make an application with your photo, id proof before the concern authorities for effecting the change. once it is notified in government gazette publication you will receive the copy of the same to your mailing address you mentioned in the application and after that you should also make a publication in newspaper having wide circulation in and around your city of residence.. The publication may cost you a few hundred rupees. Once these processes are done you can either effect the change in all the earlier records or you can make use of it only in making change in future records by attaching a copy of Government gazette notification. wish you all the best for your future endeavour.
