Is it illegal to mention unmarried if I am divorced in govt job forms

Sir/Mam. I am working in a govt company and I am applying for another govt job. I am a divorced but while applying for the govt job I have mentioned unmarried to avoid unnecessary questions. is it illegal what are the problms and action the govt can take.
There is no such legality or illegality in stating your relationship. However if you specify as divorced then it will be safe. You are married and divorced. So you cannot say unmarried. Better you say divorced.
