You cannot change Name in Birth Certificate without permission of High Court. You have to file a special case in High Court to change that and looking to the facts of your situation, there are large chances of success. You can also try to file an affidavit and produce that in Municipality if municipality allows you to change the name.

The change of name in the birth certificate can be done. But only minor spelling correction can be done. If there is major change then you need to make a gazette for the name change and publish in 2 news papers. Contact for further help so we can get this sorted. Thanks

Dear Sir, Every citizen has the right to change the name of self and children also at any time. Immediately on birth. Before going to school. After going to school. Even before marriage or after marriage. What can not be done is that the name cannot be given before birth. Name can not be changed after death of a person. It can be changed by simple procedure. Make a declaration by parent in case of minor or himself in case of major, in the form of Affidavit. Get it published in English and one local language. This change will be accepted by all.
