16-Dec-2023 (In Documentation Law)
Dear Sir, Since I am an NRI,I have give power to my father who got paralyzed and under treatment . He is recovering well but could not sign. Is his thumb impression acceptable instead of signature? Now I would like to buy a property . Plz advise Regards
Yes, it is quite acceptable. Thumb impression has to be attested by two good witnesses, preferably third parties. Your father's identity can be established by means of his PAN Card or Voter's ID or Aadhaar Card.
Even though it is legally valid to put one's thumb impression, in your case, it is not advisable to appoint your father as he is paralysed and may not be in a position to execute well. Consider some other option
Yes.if a person, unable to sign he can put his thump impression instead of his signature. But for abundunt caution it's always better to inform this to the registration authorities to avoid last minute delay
