If your wife is threatening to file a false dowry case against you then you need to preserve and record all evidence of her threats like calls, messages as these recordings can be useful to prevent false cases. In false dowry cases, courts are vigilant and they require strong evidence against you to take any action. You may also file a police complaint stating that you are being harassed by your wife and are being threatened with false cases. This complaint can deter your wife from pressurising you. Also your wife cannot claim maintenance from you for a lifetime as maintenance depends on the wife's financial status (if she is earning or not) , husband's income, time period of marriage, etc.

If she files a false dowry case (498A IPC / Dowry Prohibition Act), keep proof of no demand. Lifetime maintenance is not automatic and depends on her need. Precautions: Keep written communication, proof of expenses and her income, avoid situations for false claims, and file 503 IPC complaint if threatened. Note: Rajesh Sharma vs. State of U.P. (2017) – Misuse of 498A safeguards Manish Jain vs. Akanksha Jain (2017) – Maintenance is need-based Please read these cases for better understanding.
