You can have defence that you took loan from your wife for certain period of time and now you are intended to return to her. This is the only way. Better return the money whatever you jave taken from your wife to avoid legal action.

Did you take money during the time of your marriage? Did you make demands for the money to the parents of your wife during the time of marriage? You should return the money as you have admitted that you took the money. You can show that it is not a dowry but a loan or financial help form the family of the wife.
