Settlement through mediation center

28-Jan-2023 (In Divorce Law)
I was married 4 years ago and wife left my household after a few months. There were no marital relations and she was abusive since day 1. I have also not taken a single rupee as dowry. marriage has not been consummated. On grounds of desertion and cruelty I filed for divorce 2 years back. I earn 1.5L p.m and she earns/has earned in past 70k+ p.m. The case is in the mediation center. I want to know if I should pay or not and if so then how much to get the divorce settled?

If your wife is also earning and is capable of maintaining herself then you are not liable to pay her anything. Since your matter is pending in mediation then you can settle your grievances and end up by no exchange of money by both the parties. And if the mediation succeeds then go for mutual divorce.

There is no strict jacket formula to calculate the amount for settlement of any dispute. This wholly depends upon the circumstances and requirements. If your wife is claiming for maintenance then you can assail the same stating that she is earning enough to have better standards of life.
