In Indian divorce law, it is generally valid for a lawyer to appear on a client's behalf for routine hearings, but personal presence is often required at crucial stages like mediation or evidence recording. Key Legal Points Lawyer's Appearance: Your wife's lawyer can appear in court using a Vakalatnama (authorization), which is a standard practice for procedural dates. Wife's Non-Appearance: Since your wife is the petitioner (the one who filed the case) and is repeatedly absent without a valid reason, you or your lawyer can request the court to dismiss the petition for non-prosecution. Courts generally provide several opportunities for the absent party to appear, but continuous, unexplained absence can lead to dismissal.

Dear Sir, File a strong objection / written statement opposing divorce Seek restitution of conjugal rights (RCR) if appropriate Request the court to direct compulsory mediation/counseling Highlight your willingness to resume cohabitation and care for children
