If the promise of marriage was made without genuine intention and was used to exploit or manipulate you, the law provides clear remedies. You may take the following legal steps based on facts and evidence: 1️.Criminal Remedy: If there was deception, emotional/physical exploitation, or coercion based on a false promise of marriage, you may approach the police for appropriate action under relevant provisions of the IPC/BNS. Courts recognise that consent obtained on a false promise of marriage is not valid consent. 2. Civil Remedy: You can claim compensation/damages for mental agony, exploitation, and breach of promise, especially where your dignity, reputation, or financial interests were affected. 3. Protection & Evidence: Preserve all evidence—WhatsApp chats, messages, photos, witnesses, proof of residence, and any financial transactions. These are crucial. Each case depends on intention at the time of promise. If the promise was genuine initially but later failed due to circumstances, criminal liability may not arise—but civil remedies may still be available. Immediate legal consultation is strongly advised to assess facts and proceed strategically.
