For grant of alimony court takes into account your income, your life style . whether your wife is working or not, conduct of parties and what court feels is reasonable amount . The age of wife , period of marriage is also considered by court while determining alimony to be paid to wife. So, there is no need to pay unreasonable amounts. Usually 1/3 of your total income will be the maintainence amount.

You cannot hide yourself from giving alimony to the wife as the same is her right to demand from you.
Circumstances in every case is different and the law thereupon is different for the final verdict.

3 issues need to be addressed before the court decides on the alimony amount.
Try and appreciate that the word alimony is derived from a Latin word meaning 'sustenance'.
So 1) The amount must be only for the 'reasonable expenses' of the spouse( in most cases the wife)
2) the status and Income of the spouse ( husband in most cases)
3) wife's own earnings

So adjust accordingly...the husband has to show earnings less than that of the wife...in order to reduce or for that matter avoid paying the alimony account.
And that requires a sharp and expert lawyer.
No other way
