How long will it take for dowry case to finish?

28-Feb-2024 (In Divorce Law)
My husband & in laws are holding on to my dowry cash and my wedding jewels, which is in a joint locker under both my and my husband' name. I have receipts for jewels and proof of dowry given Some lawyers tell me to file a 498 case against my husband. My husband is refusing to return my dowry until I sign my mutual divorce forms. If I file an FIR, Will I get my dowry and jewels back immediately or Can my husband create legal problems for me, which will cause delays in me getting a dowry back.

You have the option to pursue a domestic violence case instead of invoking Section 498A, as domestic violence cases can be withdrawn at any time, unlike Section 498A which cannot be retracted once initiated. In a domestic violence case, the judge has the authority to readily freeze bank lockers, and you can present bills to reclaim your possessions.

It’s better you hire expert advocate in this case. It’s better u don’t file 498a n go for mutual, n even for mutual u both need to come to court to get your statement recorded. So u can mention the details n cost of jewellery in your settlement deed n ask your husband to hand over in front of court Plz b in touch

If the behaviour of your husband is intolerable towards you can anytime send a complaint regarding your grievances in writing to the police station according to your jurisdiction. And if you wish to go legal then you can also file a petition under section 12 DV or section 125 CrPC and claim maintenance for yourself. And if there's no scope of living together then rather stretching the relationship you should file for contested divorce under the ground of cruelty. I would suggest you to go with mutual divorce because it's cost effective and ends up in a maximum of six months. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.
