Division of property during a divorce

11-Aug-2023 (In Divorce Law)
My husband and I have been married for almost 30 years and we have 2 adult children. I am considering divorce because my marriage has completely broken down and I have been disrespected, ill-treated mentally, and I have been literally made to beg for money for my day to day expenses from my husband. When we got married, my husband asked me to stop working and become a full-time homemaker so I have been a dependent for the past 30 years. I wanted to know my rights when it comes to division of property during a divorce. My husband has ensured that I have nothing on my name even though I am the one cooking, cleaning, and managing the house that he purchased 15 years ago. I wanted to know if I could claim a share in this house that we have been co-residing in for 15 years and a house that he claimed after his father passed away without leaving a will. Thank you.

Your children can claim by filing suit for partition against property which was left by your father in law without will. You can only have right to claim maintenance on his income and permanent alimony from court. No right vests on property which is standing in his name
