Child custody under special marriage act

My friend is a Hindu and married a muslim wife. They have grown apart and have a child of 10 years old. The wife earns 12k per month and the husband earns 10 lakhs per annum. He is ready to give financial support to the wife for life but wants the custody of the child. Can he win such case?
custody of the Young Child generally remains with the mother however we can put a petition for child custody . if the mother is of unsound mind or unable to take care of the child and the same is proven in the Court of law we can win the child custody . the Welfare of the minor is more important legally speaking .
