if your mutual divorce petition is submitted then you can file for demand of maintenance or alimony as per you accordingly both cases may go parallel as your is mutual divorce it will take 6 months what is your jurisdiction...

yes it can be transformed to a contested divorce by withdrawing the mutual divorce and as laid down by the apex court it has become easier to obtain maintenance and there is no escape route and will have to pay whatever it might be

In case of mutual divorce there is usually an agreement which settles any dispute regarding alimony / child custody etc. When the mutual divorce petition is filed and the court may not entertain the petition if these matters are not settled mutually. As such the question of demanding alimony does not arise as in case of a contested divorce application so there is no sense in making any demand by amendments since in that case the divorce is no more mutual.i.e. through mutual understanding.
