Under Indian law, the actions of the man’s wife and brother—forcing you to unlock your phones, copying your personal data, and sharing your private WhatsApp chats and call recordings—constitute severe legal violations. They have no legal right to access, copy, retain, or share your phone data. Their conduct violates your fundamental right to privacy under Article 21 of the Constitution and amounts to offenses such as criminal breach of trust, theft, extortion/coercion, and voyeurism or outraging modesty (under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 / Indian Penal Code). Furthermore, under the Information Technology Act, unauthorized access, data theft, and sharing of electronic material (Sections 66, 66E, and 72/72A) are cognizable cyber offenses. You can legally demand the immediate return and permanent deletion of all copies of your data. You should immediately file a formal cybercrime complaint at your local cyber cell or police station, reporting unauthorized data theft, coercion, and privacy breach. You may also approach the court for an injunction to restrain them from further sharing, circulating, or misusing your data, and seek legal protection against blackmail or harassment.
