Abusive language in whatsapp chats related to me

Is it illegal to read someone's whatsapp messages and take a screenshot where I was the subject? Can they sue me for breaching their privacy if I want to file a case against them for use of abusive language for me on whatsapp chat?

It is illegal if you used those messages and circulated them. With regards to the abusive language used against you, you shall have to prove that the same was published to a third party. You shall first send a legal cum defamation notice followed by a defamation suit.

yes it's illegal to take take hold of any app or msg without permission. in the case as you are saying you breached the privacy of other person in this sinario you can file the case and make other person liable for you privacy breach
