If a candidate is acquitted and no appeal is filed within the limitation period, the acquittal becomes final and he is legally eligible for government jobs. However until the appeal period lapses or any appeal is disposed of , the case is considered pending. Once final, he can truthfully be declared no pending Criminal case in applications .

If a candidate is acquitted, they are generally eligible for government jobs unless the acquittal is “honourable” or “clean” versus merely on benefit of doubt. Government departments often check the nature of acquittal and facts of the case during police verification. If no appeal is filed within the limitation period (30 days) or the appeal is dismissed, the acquittal stands final. However, disclosure of the past case is mandatory in applications to avoid disqualification for suppression. Yes, the candidate is eligible for government jobs after acquittal, but during police verification/character verification, the department may ask details of the case. If it is a clean acquittal, no bar exists. If acquittal is by benefit of doubt, then the recruiting authority has discretion.
