violence performed on a old man

a young adult male punched my father in chest and tried to choke him because my father verbally used bad words towards him and my father has a medical condition about it and he is 60 years old. can i sue the guy?

Well, you can file concerned Sections of IPC and get that young person arrested on the charge of unleashing illegal Battery. But, chances are, he may be get a lenient punishment, as your Father provoked him.

Yes approach the local police station and file complaint against the person. Attempt to murder and other sections can be imposed and case can be registered against the person in the local police station.
