Theft committed by a minor at my house.

12-Nov-2023 (In Criminal Law)
A minor staying with my family for 3 years has stolen valuables worth lacs from my house and the local police is not willing to take a FIR since months as it involves a minor. We know minors house and we are not able to do anything as the police is not taking down the FIR. Minor is now in another state with his family and police of that state says that they can take any action only after a FIR is registered in the local police station of other state where the crime was committed. I think local police will register a FIR only after pushing them legally. Please suggest what type of lawyer should I consult / hire? One related to child crime? Are there lawyers specializing in such cases?

Well, if the Police is not registering your FIR considering the accused as Juvenile, still you have several legal remedies available such as -

1. You can approach senior officers like Assistant Commissioner of Police or Deputy General of Police which are over such Police -Personnels which have not registered your FIR.

2. Based on the Non-Cognizable Complaint, if they would have lodged, you can approach the Magistrate by lodging a Private Criminal Complaint under Sec 156 (3) to seek directions for the Police to arrest the Juvenile accused & commence the Official Investigation into the case.
