Serving court summons using vc

19-Aug-2023 (In Criminal Law)
I had filed an FIR regarding extortion. Now I have changed my address, which is not mentioned in FIR. How will i get to know if i am being summoned in the court? Will the IO inform me? And can i serve the summons using VC as it is not possible for me to attend court right now?

if the chargesheet has not been filed then you can simply inform the IO about the current address. in case the chargesheet has been filed your presence will be required necessarily once the case reaches the stage of prosecution evidence. You can inform the court about the current address through an application also. and yes you can mark your formal appearance through VC only if the court allows so. But when you will be required for the recording of evidence as a witness you must appear before the court in person. Hope it helps. Regards Adv. Anupam Pandey

You can contact your IO regarding the same. And nowadays the summons are also issued on WhatsApp. And if you don't wish to attend the court proceedings then you can always attend it via video conferencing. But for giving evidence purposes you need to attend the court once. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.

Inform the court about the change of address as soon as possible. This can usually be done by submitting a written request or application to the court clerk or the appropriate department. Include the new address details and any supporting documents as required.
