Scope of questions in cross-examination?

11-Dec-2023 (In Criminal Law)
There are many inconsistencies (omission/addition) and contradictions in written compliant, complainant statement recorded under 164 CrPc and what she told during examination in chief. Can cross-examination be done beyond what was stated in examination in chief. Can questions be put on the contents of written compliant and complainant statement recorded under 164 CrPc to test the veracity? Will the presiding office restrict to conduct cross-examination based on what was told during examination in chief.
