Rights violation and illegal proceeding by police

07-May-2023 (In Criminal Law)
We were 4 people including 1 girl(all college students and above 18) standing near the lake at night around 1 am just talking without any illegal items. Police saw us and started beating us badly without verifying our identity or listening to us. He even slapped the girl and no lady police was present. Then he took all 4 of us including the girl to police station and there also he had beaten us just for standing near the lake. No lady constable was present there also and he kept us there for 1-2 hour and then he made us fill some form and write apology letter and took ₹3000 from us.what should I do as I am not feeling good thinking about what we did such wrong thing by standing there that we were beaten like criminals. P. S. Lake was open with no fencing or board

Dear Sir,
The Police Act contains so many provisions and a person wondering on streets or in any place without any reason it goes to show that his activities are suspicious as such police has powers to enquire. Better approach higher police officers with your parents to resolve the issue if you are really innocent.

yes you can file a complaint against the police in court but all 4 of you have to support if anyone is not supporting then it is better not to proceed, but yes complaint can be filed and there can be departmental enquiry against that cop and he can also be suspended.
