Passport retention by consultancy

Consultancy asked to submit my original passport for visa processing now holding my passport and asking for money. I agreed to pay after joining the job but they want money before travelling.

hi if they aee holding your passport back then you could send the legal notice asking the consultancy to give back the documents which are easential for travel and that they cannot withold the passport on the ground of getting money
