My neighbour is threatening to take me to court :(

20-Jun-2025 (In Criminal Law)
I, 17F, accidentally injured my neighbour's uncle, along with my cat. So, she went into his house one evening, and he captured her, then came to fight me because I 'can't control my cat'. Things went out of hand, and I uh, accidentally broke his skull. Now, he's threatening to sue me, but shouldn't the uncle be ashamed of trying to fight young girls who live alone in their apartment??? He's a weirdo. Also, my cat bit him. He didn't notice, but I am not telling him he needs rabies vaxx. Help? :')

Hi ma'am, firstly you need to understand that any action done by your cat you are the one who's responsible. As to injury caused to uncle he can sue you on serious charges. To provide you with good advice and build a defence for you, I would be needing additional information. Note: You being minor opens a plethora of options to retort. Feel free to contact me for any assistance.

Although one is bound to control the pet they are keeping. But what seems to be from your query is that the man entered into your premises and started creating ruckus because of which the cat might have attacked him considering the defensive tendency of pets. Take some protective measures and in case if he sues you. you will be protected as your already took the legal recourse.

Given your age, the legal action, if one arises, will go through under the scheme of Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. Causing a grievous hurt like the one you mentioned (skull fracture) may also attract serious legal consequences, even if they seem accidental. You should not be hiding about cat bite. Withholding health related information can also attract penal consequences. Its best, you cooperate (in case an actions is initiated) and prioritise medical attention involved. Regards.

Since you're a minor (17 years old), and the incident involved physical injury, it is important to handle the matter carefully. Causing grievous hurt, even accidentally, can attract legal consequences under criminal law. However, your version suggests self-defense and provocation, which may be valid defenses depending on facts. You should avoid withholding medical information that may affect someone’s health. It is strongly advised to have a parent or guardian contact a lawyer immediately to protect your rights and ensure proper legal representation. Avoid further communication with the neighbor and let the matter be handled through lawful channels.
