gold buyers theft and handling further situation to tackle from police

i own a old gold buying company i buy gold from customers, how to handle things when i unknowing bought theft gold from the customer who is a theif but iam unaware he is theif and after paying him money , police comes catching thief asking gold from us so how to tackle this situation without giving any gold for police and recover the money what we have given to theif and returning the gold, what if we are not in situation of giving gold what cases will be put on us.

Dear Sir, There are such many instances in which at the instigation and false statement of thieves the Police visiting the jewelry shops and goldsmiths and forcibly recover gold ingots saying that the Gold ornaments were converted into in words. There is no remedy for such action by the Police. You should not purchase Gold ornaments etc from a person unknown to you.
