Dear Sir, Yes, he can do in the larger interest of your family but if any dispute arise and if that account is known to your wife then she will not be held responsible because you are doing such illegal activities to earn more money without the notice of your wife. Better to avoid in involving such illegal activities because one day or the other you have to face the serious consequences and you may lose your job.

Yes, kindly provide us with details about the specific transaction you are referring to. It is important to understand what bank transaction your husband is allegedly hiding, as this will help us assess the situation properly. While banks are bound by confidentiality, this secrecy can be lifted in cases involving legal disputes, investigations, or matrimonial proceedings where financial transparency is essential. Once we know the nature of the transaction and your concerns, we will be in a better position to advise you on the appropriate legal remedy, including seeking disclosure through court if necessary.

In India, the legal framework surrounding spousal knowledge of bank accounts can be complex. Here are some key points to consider: *Spousal Rights and Bank Accounts* - *Right to Know*: There's no explicit law that grants a spouse the right to know about the other's bank accounts. However, under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, and the Special Marriage Act, 1954, spouses have a duty to maintain each other's welfare, which might imply a responsibility to be transparent about financial matters [2][3]. - *Joint Accounts and Financial Transparency*: If the accounts are joint or have a nominee, the spouse might have access to information about the accounts. *Maintaining Secret Bank Accounts* - *Legality*: Maintaining a secret bank account isn't necessarily illegal, but it can lead to issues in divorce or maintenance proceedings. The court might consider it while deciding on alimony or maintenance. - *Consequences*: If a spouse discovers a hidden account, they might claim that the account holder has concealed assets, which could impact the division of assets or maintenance. *Potential Consequences* - *Divorce Proceedings*: If the relationship deteriorates and divorce proceedings begin, the existence of undisclosed bank accounts could influence the court's decisions on asset division and maintenance. - *Legal Action*: The other spouse might take legal action to claim a share of the undisclosed assets or to hold the account holder accountable for concealing financial information. *Conclusion* While maintaining a secret bank account might not be illegal per se, it can have significant implications in legal proceedings, especially in divorce cases. Transparency and open communication about financial matters can help avoid potential disputes and legal complications.
