Document(Stamp paper non notorized ) signed under duress.

03-Aug-2023 (In Criminal Law)
I have been forced to sign a stamp paper written in Telugu which I can't read & write. The person who made me sign threatened me of committing suicide & making me the reason behind it. Also he got locals to my home which threatened my well being. Person is forcing me to pay 1Lac rs as compensation for the loss incurred in the business which we both ventured in. My loss in the business is higher than what he has incurred.

you can challenge that document which was forcefully signed by you. you may approach the police station and lodge a fir against them for the things which they made to you and you may add that you have the life threat from them.

Let me rephrase the question...You are most likely a North Indian who said gullible words and made your friend in your business because presumption of the society is that North Indians are good in Verbal skills...Your Business partner made you sign on a stamp paper for the loss incurred.. In Telugu States as the Agreements are usually in Telugu even between Urdu speaking families..So the language is no big deal, he made you sign the agreement....He can go the civil way, he can go the criminal way and he can also go the amicable way...Now you are scared about his possibilities but I need more facts to analyze the situation better...
