20-Apr-2026 (In Criminal Law)
I was in relationship 7 yrs ago and got death threats from my maternal uncles. Im handicapped. The girl is married now and im not. I had filed a complaint to NCW, DM of Nasik and Presidential secretariate. Every time police called us the girl lied and said case is false. Police did not take statement from any 8 accused. Can i still file a FIR in this case? I dont hv much money either.

Write a letter to the higher officials of Nashik like, DCP, CP and ACP of nashik you can even email them all your documents and show that your case is valid and it has been prolonged for more than 7 years now, write to cm and even pm and other big ministers you can write a letter to ministry of law and justice as well or file a private complaint in the court of Judicial Magistrate, or try to forgive if you can and try to move ahead in life if possible.

Yes, you can still take legal action, but delay of about 7 years will be a practical issue. For offences like criminal intimidation (threats), limitation and proof become important. However, if threats were serious (to life) and continuing in nature, you may proceed. First, file a written complaint before the local Police Station and insist on registration of FIR. If police do not act, you can file an application under Section 156(3) CrPC before the Magistrate seeking direction to register FIR. Alternatively, you may file a private complaint under Section 200 CrPC directly before the Magistrate with whatever evidence you have (messages, call records, witnesses). Also mention your disability and past complaints to authorities (NCW, DM etc.) to show seriousness and prior efforts. Practically, collect any proof of threats. Without evidence, police may treat it as weak case. If financial condition is weak, you can seek legal aid through District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) free of cost. Act promptly now, as further delay may weaken your case.

Yes, if genuine death threats were given, you may still seek FIR. Delay needs explanation. Give proof/witnesses/old complaints. If police refuse, file complaint before Magistrate u/s 156(3) CrPC/BNS as per the concerned provisions of law.

If you have already filed a complaint and no action has been taken, you should address a detailed representation to the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, setting out all facts and issues from the inception till date, including reference to your earlier complaint lodged with the concerned police station/Inspector. In the event no action is taken even thereafter, you may proceed to file a private complaint before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class.

You can file a private complaint before the Magistrate under Sec 156(3) CrPC (now 175 BNSS). The 7-year delay is condonable for serious threats. Contact the Nasik District Legal Services Authority for free legal aid.
