Can I go to police station to know information?

06-Aug-2023 (In Criminal Law)
Some people are calling my father and continuously demanding money saying my father has XYZ false case registered against him in various courts/police stations and that giving the said money will grant him bail. They said if he doesn't take bail, police will come at midnight and arrest him. This going fr sometym now. I suspect massive fraud racket. So can i go to my nearest police station to enquire if there in fact has ever been any case/warrant registered against my father ever? Is that safe?

you need to visit the local court (GRO section) to find out such details. the police station may not entertain you with such request. in any event since you say cases are registered across various courts so it may not be easy. wait for a section 41A notice or if you are able to trace the case apply for bail. regards, Tanmoy Chattopadhyay, M.Sc (Net), LL.B (Delhi University), Advocate, Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta.
