You have not specified the terms of your previous employment and why your employer would retain the original certificates in the first place. I hope you have served your notice period and that they have no objection on that ground. Did you sign a bond with them? Are you still attending office there and what about the full and final settlement? In any case, they cannot force you to continue with your employment with them. You can first send a legal notice asking them to release your certificates. Thereafter, you can approach the court / labour tribunal. Do share more information for further advice.

Hi! Have you done your corporate filings with the ministry of corporate affairs vis-a-vis resignation? Have you out in place your resignation via email or letter and Have you preserved proof of the same? If yes, a notice needs to be sent out. Do let me know if you would like to connect.

You should send them a proper legal notice asking to return of certificates categorically. The notice should be clear, cogent and clever their past conduct and how they have avoided all your requests. They should hopefully return your certificate. If they don't do it then you may file a police complaint.
